BTR Terminal Renovation Project

Investing in the Future of Air Travel in Louisiana’s Capital Region
Baton Rouge Airport is investing in the future of air travel in Louisiana’s Capital Region with the BTR Terminal Renovation Project. The project will modernize key areas of the terminal, improve essential passenger systems, and create a more comfortable, efficient, and welcoming experience for travelers, employees, airlines, and other airport stakeholders.
The renovation represents an important investment in the future of Baton Rouge Airport and the community it serves. By updating aging spaces, enhancing technology and infrastructure, and improving the passenger experience, the project will create a terminal that is better equipped to serve the Capital Region today and for years to come.
Construction is expected to begin in October 2026, with completion anticipated in Q3 2027.
A More Modern Terminal Experience
The BTR Terminal Renovation Project will bring meaningful improvements to many of the spaces passengers experience throughout their journey.
Improvements will include:
- New flooring, lighting elements, wall finishes, and architectural enhancements
- New furniture throughout the terminal, including powered seating for convenient device charging
- Enhancements to ticket counter areas
- New baggage belts and improvements to baggage systems
- State-of-the-art video screens in the ticket lobby and baggage claim
- Enhancements to the rental car facility
- Additional improvements to key passenger areas throughout the terminal
Together, these improvements will create a more cohesive and contemporary terminal while making the passenger journey more comfortable and convenient.
Designed for the Way We Travel Today
The needs of travelers have changed, and the airport experience should change with them.
From improved seating and charging capabilities to modern passenger information displays and upgraded baggage systems, the renovation focuses on the details that make a difference throughout a traveler’s journey.
At the same time, improvements to the terminal’s architecture, finishes, lighting, and public spaces will create an environment that feels fresh, welcoming, and distinctly connected to Baton Rouge.
An Investment in Our Community
Baton Rouge Airport serves as an important gateway for the Capital Region—connecting residents, businesses, and visitors to destinations throughout the country and beyond.
For travelers arriving in Baton Rouge, the airport is often their first impression of the Capital Region. For those returning home, it is the first step back into the community. The experience begins well before a visitor reaches a destination or a local traveler arrives home, making the airport an important part of how our region welcomes people and presents itself to the world.
This project is an investment in that experience and in the role Baton Rouge Airport plays within the broader Capital Region. A modern, efficient, and welcoming airport supports the region’s growth, strengthens connections for business and tourism, and contributes to the quality of life and pride of the people who call this community home.
By modernizing the terminal and improving the experience for everyone who passes through it, the BTR Terminal Renovation Project will help position Baton Rouge Airport as the airport of choice for travelers throughout the Capital Region—while creating a gateway that reflects the energy, character, and aspirations of the community it serves.
The project is guided by four key priorities:
Enhance the Passenger Experience
Create a more comfortable, convenient, and welcoming environment for travelers.
Modernize the Terminal
Update aging spaces, finishes, furnishings, technology, and infrastructure.
Improve Operational Efficiency
Support the safe and efficient movement of passengers while improving the working environment for airport stakeholders.
Build Community Pride
Create an airport experience that reflects the character and spirit of Baton Rouge and the Capital Region.
What to Expect During Construction
Construction is expected to begin in October 2026 and continue through Q3 2027.
As construction progresses, passengers may experience changes to routes and access within the terminal as work moves through different areas. All airport services will remain open and operational throughout the project.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers, airlines, employees, and community partners as this work takes place.
The finished terminal will provide a more modern, efficient, and welcoming experience and a stronger gateway for the Capital Region.
Looking Ahead
The BTR Terminal Renovation Project is an investment in the future of Baton Rouge Airport and the people it serves.
Together, these improvements will create a better airport experience, strengthen the connection between the airport and our community, and help ensure Baton Rouge Airport continues to meet the needs of a growing Capital Region.
