BTR Introduces GoodMaps to Help Every Traveler Find What’s Next
New web and app-based wayfinding brings accessible, multilingual navigation to Baton Rouge’s hometown airport.
The experience begins online. From BTR’s website, travelers can use an interactive GoodMaps Web map to explore the terminal, search for destinations, and review routes before leaving home. It works in a modern browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile, with no app, account, or login required.
Once at BTR, travelers can continue in the browser or use the free GoodMaps App for more detailed turn-by-turn navigation. The App offers spoken, visual, and haptic guidance, screen-reader compatibility, step-free route options, and real-time confirmation as users move toward their destination.
“Flying local is about making the most of your time and starting your trip closer to home,” said Mike Edwards, Director of Aviation at BTR. “GoodMaps adds another layer of ease to that experience. It gives travelers more information before they arrive and more choice in how they navigate once they are here. Most importantly, it reflects our commitment to making BTR accessible to all travelers and giving everyone greater opportunity to navigate the airport on their own terms.”
Designed for the Whole Journey
Airports bring together frequent flyers, first-time visitors, families, older adults, international travelers, people with disabilities, and passengers working against the clock. GoodMaps gives these travelers a shared navigation platform while allowing each person to use the guidance that works best for them.
The platform supports more than 25 languages, helping make airport information easier to understand for people who prefer to navigate in a language other than English. Blind and low-vision travelers can use detailed audio guidance and screen readers. Deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers can follow on-screen directions. Wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility can select step-free routes. Clear, structured instructions can also help neurodivergent travelers, anxious travelers, and anyone who values knowing what to expect.
GoodMaps differs from many indoor navigation systems because it takes an accessibility-first design approach. Rather than adding accommodations after building a general navigation product, its platform began with the demanding requirements of people who are blind or have low vision, including precise positioning and guidance that does not depend on visual signs. That foundation can improve the experience for a much broader range of travelers.
“BTR’s focus on convenience, community, and welcome makes this a natural use of GoodMaps,” said Kevin Kline, Community Engagement Representative at GoodMaps. “When travelers can preview a route before arriving and choose audio, visual, haptic, or step-free guidance on site, the airport becomes easier to understand for everyone. That is positive change people can use from their first click to their final turn.”
Community Demonstration Event

BTR will host Find Your Way at BTR: A GoodMaps Community Preview, a free event where travelers, families, advocates, community partners, and members of the media can experience the platform firsthand.
Find Your Way at BTR: A GoodMaps Community Preview
Tuesday, October 13, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Second floor, pre-security, near the fountain in the atrium
Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR)
The program will include guided demonstrations of GoodMaps Web and the GoodMaps App, opportunities to test audio, visual, haptic, multilingual, and step-free navigation, and a question-and-answer session with representatives from BTR and GoodMaps. Attendees can learn how to preview a terminal route from home, locate airport services, and choose navigation settings that match their needs.
BTR plans to invite local and statewide disability and accessibility organizations. These organizations support people who are blind or have low vision, people who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and disabled people and families across the capital region.
Travelers with disabilities, orientation and mobility professionals, accessibility coordinators, older-adult organizations, tourism partners, airport tenants, and people who simply want a smoother trip are also encouraged to attend.
Participants will benefit by:
- Trying the platform before their next flight.
- Learning how browser-based trip planning can reduce uncertainty before arrival.
- Testing accessible route options and different guidance modes.
- Sharing practical feedback with BTR and GoodMaps.
- Helping family members, clients, students, or customers use the platform.
- Connecting with organizations working to improve access and independence across the region.
GoodMaps Web will be available on the BTR website here: Interactive Terminal Map. The free GoodMaps App is also available for compatible iOS and Android devices.
