Baton Rouge Metro Airport To Hold Mock Disaster Drill
Aug 23, 2023BATON ROUGE, LA – Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) will hold a Mock Disaster Drill on Thursday, August 24, 2020 from 9am to 1pm. A disaster drill is required once every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all commercial airports.
The Mock Disaster Drill is an emergency response exercise to test the Airport Emergency Plan in accordance with FAA requirements, and to improve emergency preparedness in the event of an actual aircraft incident. All mutual aid agencies responsible for first response and treatment of patients will participate, allowing the airport to complete a comprehensive test of the system.
The Baton Rouge Metro Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Officers will take the lead role in the mock disaster and coordination of the multi-agency responses. In addition to law enforcement training, BTR Airport Police Officers are trained as professional fire fighters and first-responder EMTs.
The drill will not affect commercial flights, and will take place in an area separate from flight operations. The public may see smoke from the drill, and numerous emergency vehicles will converge on the airport as part of the mutual aid from all area responders.
