Delta Air Lines has scheduled a 120-seat DC9 jet to replace one of its CRJ 200 50-seat jets on the Baton Rouge (BTR) to Atlanta (ATL) route effective November 04, 2012.  The mainline jet is configured with 16 First Class, 14 Economy Comfort, and 90 Economy seats.  Delta Air Lines currently utilizes CRJ 200 & 700 regional jets on the route, seating 50 and 65 seats respectively.

The Delta DC9 schedule on the Atlanta - Baton Rouge route will be as follows:

Atlanta to Baton Rouge

           Flight           Aircraft           Departs           Arrives

            1340          DC9-50          1:50 p.m.       2:26 p.m.

Baton Rouge to Atlanta

           Flight           Aircraft           Departs          Arrives

            1340          DC9-50          3:05 p.m.       5:35 p.m.

Delta will be replacing many of their 50-seat CRJ 200 jets with larger aircraft over the next several years, which will lead to bigger aircraft in markets that can support the additional seating capacity.

"This is an important opportunity for the Baton Rouge Metro Airport," stated Jim Caldwell, Marketing and Air Service Development Manager at BTR.  "If passengers from our region support the service, it may lead to bigger aircraft being scheduled on more Delta flights, either via larger regional jets or mainline jet service."

Load factors (percentage of seats filled) are currently averaging between 86%-88% on the Delta Connection jets serving BTR.  Such high load factors typically mean that there is spillage on peak days, with more demand for seats than availability.

"We appreciate the strong support we have received from Baton Rouge area residents, and are confident that the high load factors Delta currently sustains at BTR will carry over to this new mainline DC9 flight, " said Anthony Marino, Director of Aviation at BTR.  "It is vital that we support it with strong bookings."

The Baton Rouge Metro Airport is currently served by the four major, networks carriers - American, Delta, United and US Airways - with frequent jet service to five major hubs, providing single connection service to destinations worldwide.

In addition to the increased number of flights, passengers will feel extra comfy on our new bigger jet service. Delta Air Lines has already started flying a 120-seater DC-9 on their 7 a.m. nonstop Atlanta flight. On May 2, this jet will switch to the 142 seat MD-88 and the airline will upgrade another Atlanta departure to a CRJ-700 with a duel class cabin. Lastly, Frontier Airlines will bring back their seasonal Airbus 320 service to Denver. This 162–seat jet, the largest jet departure from CAK, comes back May 23.

"We are thrilled that our air carriers are adding even more flight options for Northeast Ohio travelers from CAK,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "This clearly demonstrates that travelers are seeking great fares, big jets, fantastic destinations and a relaxing airport experience and we are pleased to deliver it all.”
